BLACKSHAW INTERIOR DESIGN WAS CONTRACTED BY GRAVITY INTERNATIONAL, ONE OF THE WORLD’S LARGEST GLOBAL INVESTMENT COMPANIES, TO DESIGN AND FIT OUT THEIR 500 SQUARE METRE OFFICE SPACE ON MARBELLA’S GOLDEN MILE.
Before commencing work on the project, the interior designers needed to obtain a better understanding of the company’s structure, values and beliefs, as well as its employees’ views. “We also needed to get a better feeling for the space itself,” explains company founder and owner Sally Blackshaw.
“We therefore spent time with the company to better understand its needs and undertook a thorough analysis of the office space so we could provide Gravity International with a design that would optimise the use of space, light, materials and services.”
According to Blackshaw, an office space should inspire, communicate and engage. “It should express the value the employer has for the employee and should convey the image clients and visitors have of a company.”
The clients also wanted the design to “speak” to investors, communicating trust, quality, and assurance to those they are dealing with, while maintaining a modern edge. A unique layout was established first, making the 60 square metre conference room the core central feature. The curved glass walls “inspire future thinking and decision-making”. There are also open office areas and separate offices within, for each activity.
The overall look and feel is contemporary. This is achieved through the use of materials such as laser cut wall panels and curved glass partitions. The reception desk is a feature in its own right, with black Krion top surfaces and backlit LED polished chrome logos.
The lighting in the entrance has also won design awards and has been used in influential projects all around the world.
“We have mixed all this,” says Blackshaw, “with the use of polished walnut carpentry, which signifies quality and maintains the look of an established company with a history of client satisfaction. All of the licences for the building work and for the opening of a public space have been managed by us, and we have also considered how each space needs individual control over electricity, power, air-conditioning, etc.”
And the overall aim? “To deliver something different, keeping ahead of our competitors and delivering excellence as standard.”
