BRINGING A WORLD OF ART AND DESIGN TO SOTOGRANDE
INTERVIEW WITH JESSICA DARCH OWNER AND ARTIST – DARCH&CO
What is the concept behind Darch&Co? We blend visual and graphic arts with innovative interior design, delivering custom-made solutions from exclusive brands to create exquisite homes. Our gallery hosts impressive displays by prominent local artists, showcasing con temporary works. At Darch&Co, we are art aficionados. When art is born out of passion and expertly produced, it begs to be seen. Our design and art space draws local artisans and artists together, to deliver stunning projects. With plenty of time for contemplation during the pandemic, we realised there was high demand for a bespoke service and, with this in mind, we decided to pool our skills and set up a design studio in the Sotomarket shopping mall. It was launched last year with a striking exhibition by photographer Alexis De Villar.
What services are offered by your team? The Darch&Co team is made up of experts in complementary fields, each responsible for an area of work from concept and design to planning and execution. We seek to understand a client’s taste and budgetary require ments, then guide them through the design process, to achieve their vision of a forever home. Our studio displays a range of national and international brands, together with tailor-made furniture and original decorative pieces. A legion of crafts men are at hand to create cabinetry, upholstery, wallpaper and spectacular murals. An exciting program of exhibitions brings fresh ideas, including one recent display by sculptor David Marshall and another by colour pop portrait paint er Gill Welland. Our latest show (which ran until the end of August) featured resin art embedded with quartz and crystals by Jilly Law. These pieces bring a sparkle to any wall. Working with our sister company Property Specialists Group and supported by contractors who are well-known for the quality of their workmanship, we
help clients purchase a new home, communicate their desires, then relocate to their completed abode. This is a true turn key solution and very much a hand-holding process from property search through to completion of the project. At Darch&Co we understand personal service and how to deliver the unique. From the traditional to latest trends, we search for originality and, of course, a quality finish with superb attention to detail.
How would you define your own artistic style? My work is eclectic, be it watercolours, on plexiglass or canvas. My forte is murals, sometimes on a huge scale and often at a considerable height! My distinctive style is stamped on each individual project. I liaise with the de signers to meet a client’s specifications, then approach each job as a new challenge – thoroughly enjoying bringing it to fruition. I can combine or contrast the existing décor, paint to complement a feature, or adapt a mural to suit a space. Be it transforming a staff room into a jungle or painting a giant octopus, I like to think that my scope is limitless. My 30 years of experience, together with my architectural studies, give me insight into the industry and the ability to undertake any task. I am currently working on a collection for an exhibition at the studio in December.
