THE EXCITING WORLD OF LIGHTING

To get lighting right in the home, it not only needs to create the appro priate mood for the room but it also should be at the correct level to serve its intended purpose. Perhaps the room needs various types of illumination such as direct light for reading, a wall sconce to highlight a painting, and some soft table lighting to create a warm ambience when relaxing. Often lighting can be taken for granted, but it is important both physi ologically and psychologically so it can be quite transformational. The world of lighting is an exciting one, with seemingly boundless techno logical advancements and new design ideas constantly coming onto the market. Lamps do not have to be just functional tools but can also serve as decorative and sometimes even sculptural pieces. With so many options to choose from, do your research before buying and you will literally be able to change the look and feel of your home at the flick of a switch.

Designed by Paola Rizzatto for Flos, the 265 Chromatica wall lamp provides directed light thanks to its painted steel adjustable arm and reflector. Flos is available from Ges Lighting in Calle Uranio in Polígono Industrial La Ermita in Marbella (www.grupoelectrostocks.com).

FLOOR LIGHTING

The Filomena floor lamp designed by Matteo Ugolini for Karman originates from the floor and can be stretched up walls and across ceilings for a dynamic and minimalist look. The architectural style of the Filomena came from Ugolini’s observation that “rooms are blank slates, cables are pencil marks, and cones highlight the colours and objects that surround us”. Karman is available through Siesta Interior Design in C. Plaza in Nueva Andalucía (www.siestainteriordesign.com).

Luceplan’s Malamata (named after the designer’s Israeli roots, drawing on the Hebrew meaning of “up and down”) is characterised by a counterweight that allows the diffuser, made from blown opal glass, to be placed in various positions. Luceplan is available from Ges Lighting in C/ Uranio in Pol. Ind. La Ermita in Marbella (www.grupoelectrostocks.com).

Designed by Enzo Catellani for Catellani & Smith, the PostKrisi was created from the designer’s love of working and moulding fibreglass due to its versatility and durability. The way the shadows are cast when it meets light was inspiring and, as a result, the PostKrisi has many versions from table, floor and wall lamps to chandeliers (www.cattelanismith.com).

The Cut from Axolight is a contemporary floor lamp with an adjustable diffuser of circular elements joined by a metal frame in laser-cut aluminium. The first lamp emits the LED light source, while the second element filters and partially reflects the light (www.axolight.it).
