The great thing about rugs is that they are so portable, and therefore so versatile. They are ex cellent sound-absorbers, so for apartments they are particularly practical if there are residents . Also, if you have a very large room, they reduce echo and add warmth. If you have hard floors such as stone or marble, a rug can anchor the furniture (as well as protect the floor and stop items from screeching when dragged). If there are neutral tones throughout the room, a statement rug can be an easy way to introduce colour as a focal point, elevating the room’s design. If the room feels a little sterile, rugs with some texture will immediately add warmth and a welcoming note. Rugs are often overlooked but they can be quite transformational, so consider carefully how they are going to be used in a specific area… if it is one that will endure a lot of foot-fall, a hard-wearing rug is well worth investing in. Here are some gorgeous ideas to warm up your floors with a rug this autumn.
