Le Méridien: Artistic refinement in the heart of Barcelona

When guests arrive at the Le Méridien on Barcelona’s iconic Las Ramblas boulevard, one of the elements they come across is “Arrival Art Work”, created exclusively for the hotel by Joan Fontcuberta. This sets the scene of a culturally refined and stimulating ambience that, in the words of the hotel, “inspires participants to celebrate the beauty of the moment”.

Carpets throughout the hotel are imprinted with a map of Eixample (a district bordering Barcelona’s old city), in different colours and sizes for the rooms, lounges and public areas, the reception area is decorated with contemporary art collections and even the keys are designer-made – and can be kept as souvenirs by clients.

The work of sculptor and artist Jaume Amigó is incorporated into the design of the rooms (with all the suites featuring his paintings), and the terraces feature rock pieces representing “Celebration of the Birds” and, on the main hotel staircase, the 25-metre “Sopa de Gaudi”.

Interior designer Isabel López-Vilalta is responsible for the new look of rooms on the seventh, eighth and ninth floors, creating a fusion between the hotel’s history and surroundings, in the vanguard of local design – also highlighted by a commitment to sustainability with the use of recycled timber and environmentally friendly brands.

Vibrant City Hub

Le Méridien’s setting in Barcelona’s artistic and commercial hub, on the famous avenue of leisure and entertainment, is close to the bustling Plaza Cataluña and within convenient access of the city’s main attractions, including the harbour, Barri Gotic (Gothic Quarter), El Liceo Opera Theatre, Sagrada Familia, museums, restaurants and bars.

The hotel comprises 233 luxurious guest rooms and suites offering chic comfort and views over the Las Ramblas (aka La Rambla), with plush beds, plasma screen televisions with a wide selection of international channels, and sound-proofed windows to “ensure the party stays outsider”. Spacious bathrooms feature frosted, beautifully etched glass chambers with elegant details.

Expansive suites on the top floor have stunning views of the cityscape, while large private terraces provide elegant places for relaxation and entertainment. High-speed internet access is available in every guest room.

Dining and Business

The hotel’s Cent Onze restaurant is an innovative gastronomic option that combines the best of French tradition and Catalan creativity. An open, cosmopolitan space with direct access to Las Ramblas accentuates the sophisticated and cosy atmosphere. The experienced chef has created a menu that is both well-balanced and intriguing, and the kitchens are alive with the vibrant colours and fresh flavours of the Boquería market. Ingredients of the highest quality are “transformed into ephemeral works of art… haute cuisine made accessible”. Cocktails and imaginative snacks can be enjoyed throughout the day at Cent Onze’s sculpted bar, with its versatile interior design creating a harmonious extension of the restaurant.

As one of Europe’s key commercial cities, the hotel is well placed for business travellers, a brief ride from the Trade Fair and Convention Centre (by metro, bus or taxi), and offers its own conference centre equipped with the latest technology, including complimentary Wi-Fi access, and capacity to host meetings of up to 240 people. There are also 10 guest rooms that can be converted into breakout rooms, as well as a contemporary banqueting hall for 140 guests.
