Chilling-Out in Art Deco Style on Ibiza
Bucking the normal trend on a party island that tends to keep to a party season, Ocean Drive owner Marc Rahola opens his hotel all year round. Nevertheless, even though guests are able to enjoy “a rejuvenating island retreat beyond Ibiza’s legendary summer nightlife”, the hotel remains best known for its “insider access” to the island’s thriving club scene and often plays host to high-profile DJs on Ocean Drive’s scenic chill-out lounge terrace. Also unlike at other hotels on the island, breakfast is served until 4 pm, super convenient for lazy mornings after a late night/early morning of drinks and dancing. Aesthetically, it combines retro glamour with art deco design, inspired by the architecture of Miami’s South Beach, as well as New York’s roaring twenties. The art deco aesthetic is reflected in its Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier furniture. All of the 40 elegant guestrooms – offering flat screen TV, Wi-Fi, two-line telephone, mini-bar and safe – were entirely renovated in 2009- 2010, and are outfitted in mellow tones of lavender and chocolate, with views of either the Mediterranean or Ibiza’s mountain vistas.
Serving “health-conscious crossover cuisine with Asian, Latin American and European influences”, the restaurant is decorated with classic furnishings in muted hues and soft lighting. The hotel’s roof terrace offers a chill-out area overlooking the “Old Town” (a UNESCO World Heritage site) and the Mediterranean, with the Sky Bar open from May to October. In addition to its proximity to the famous Pacha nightclub, Ocean Drive Hotel is located next to the Marina Botafoch and Ibiza Nueva private yacht harbours, 200 metres from Talamanca beach and 12 kilometres from the international airport.
