The highlight of Marbella’s summer festive season, the Starlite Festival, concluded in August after a month-long extravaganza of concerts by Spanish and international stars, a diverse programme of cultural and leisure activities, and a touch of Hollywood glamour. Apart from the Spanish premiere of “The Expendables 3” (featured on previous pages) and concerts by such top luminaries as the Beach Boys, Pet Shop Boys, Tom Jones, Kool & The Gang and Julio Iglesias, the main event of the third edition of the festival – held in the natural setting of Marbella’s revamped quarry auditorium La Cantera – was the Starlite Gala hosted by local favourite son Antonio Banderas. VIP guests took to the red carpet to support the gala, which raised funds for organisations that aim to improve the education resources, other needs and quality of life of less privileged communities, families and children around the world.
