In what was described as an “unprecedented” response from exhibitors, collectors, press representatives and the public, the inaugural Photo Shanghai art fair attracted more than 25,000 visitors fascinated by works ranging from iconic vintage American to modern Chinese.

The brainchild of The World Photography Organisation, Photo Shanghai was set up with the aim of “establishing the most professional and international platform for fine art photography in the Asia-Pacific region”. The fair was Shanghai’s foremost international art fair in 2014, and it is considered to be of particular relevance with the current growing interest in photography in China, and the art fair boom taking place in the country.

Among the internationally renowned galleries taking part in the exhibition were CAMERA WORK (Berlin); Fahey / Klein Gallery (Los Angeles); ShanghART (Shanghai); Pekin Fine Arts (Beijing); Flowers (London); and A. Galerie (Paris).

Photographers whose work was exhibited at the fair included: Nick Brandt, René Burri, Edward Burtynsky, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Patrick Demarchelier, Yang Fudong, André Kertész, Peter Lindbergh, Steve McCurry, Daido Moriyama, Martin Parr, Robert Polidori, Herb Ritts, Sebastião Salgado, Josef Sudek and Edward Weston.

The next Photo Shanghai will be held in September 2015 at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre: www.photoshanghai.org
