THE INTERNATIONAL HOME, DESIGN, DÉCOR AND ART EXHIBITION ROAD SHOW WILL RESUME IN 2014 WITH AMBIENTE IN FRANKFURT FROM 7 TO 11 JANUARY; IMM COLOGNE FROM 13 TO 19 JANUARY; INTERIORS UK IN BIRMINGHAM FROM 19 TO 22 JANUARY; THE NEXT EDITION OF MAISON & OBJET IN PARIS FROM 24 TO 28 JANUARY; AND FERIA HÁBITAT VALENCIA FROM 11 TO 14 FEBRUARY.
The first Maison & Objet exhibition of the year invites exhibitors and visitors to embark on “distant inner journeys”. Featuring the main spring-summer trends theme of “Elsewhere”, the Paris show will run from 24 to 28 January.
According to the organisers, the theme reflects a desire to get away and a wish for openness to the world that are animating design and the art of living.
“Travelling coolness is looking for new lands, unseen vistas, far-off spots where adventure and wonder are at hand. Globetrotters and nomads, amblers and bushwhackers are heading out to discover the Other and sketching the shifting cartography of a mobile, fluid, cosmopolitan and more human world.”
Highlights of the exhibition cover Elsewhere in nature, under the sun and in abysses and space: “Landscape” by Elizabeth Leriche, a “soothing contemplation of landscapes… teleporting our imaginations towards new horizons”; “Heliotropic” by François Bernard, with the sun irradiating creation… ”divine, artsy, sexy, sometimes kitschy and eccentric, luxurious and joyful”; and “Beyond” by Vincente Grégoire pour Nelly rodi, “a contemporary cabinet of curiosities… bringing together sea-punks and mermaids in mid-water, robots and astronauts searching for new frontiers”.
The three “créateurs” are Tom Dixon (Designer of the Year Maison & Objet 2014), who rose to prominence in the mid 1980s as “the talented untrained designer with a line in welded salvage furniture” and who is known for such iconic designs as the Mirror Ball, Copper Shade, Wingback chair and Beat light; Philippe Nigro (Designer now! design à vivre 2014), an independent designer who works for a variety of producers, primarily in Italy and France; and Dimore Studio (Designer scenes d’interieur 2014), an interior design firm set up by Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran.
After Paris, Maison & Objet will debut in Singapore from 10 to 13 March at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, bringing with it “the very same spirit of creativity and sophistication that characterises its Parisian event”. Over 180 exhibitors have been chosen to “place an exciting emphasis on regional design offerings”.
