Located in the prestigious Sierra Blanca urbanisation, the Finca San Eduardo villa enjoys spectacular views over northern Morocco, Andalucía’s south-western coastline, Gibraltar and Marbella’s sweeping mountain backdrop. Before its renovation, the house had been built in a typical contemporary Mediterranean style, with little natural light, few open spaces and a poorly arranged garden. The main building materials used were marble, clay, stone and wood. After the charming new owners purchased the property, CPad went about its demolition, essentially leaving just the main structure. They decided on a more contemporary style inspired by modern architecture, and leading Marbella architect Carlos Lamas and eventually transformed the property into a dazzling villa which is bright and airy thanks to large-scale picture windows and expansive glass terraces, and clean straight lines. The interior is laid out over three storeys all connected by a lift in addition to stairs. The upper floor comprises the main bedroom, a dressing room and a bathroom, with access from each area to a large terrace offering uninterrupted views, plus a water removal system hidden in the flooring. On the lower floor, from the main entrance and long corridor there is a spacious lounge area with large windows and an exit to a covered porch. The living room has a large glass fireplace, and blinds and mosquito-screens on all the windows. The lounge is linked to a huge open kitchen through an enormous hidden sliding door. Also on this floor is an office and two bedrooms, both with en suite bathrooms. All the rooms on this floor have direct access to the garden. In the basement there is a large hall with access to various areas including a gymnasium that is not only fitted with the usual equipment but also a tatmi room Stylish Contemporary Villa With Exceptional Views HOMEANDLIFESTYLE.ES 83 for martial arts. In addition, there is a games room, cinema, bodega, service area and large bedroom for guests with a bathroom and dressing room. The basement also has several English patios, which provide natural light and ventilation to the whole floor, as well as direct access to the garden. The whole house has an under-floor water-heated system, as well as heating and air-conditioning, an audio system independently connected to each part of the house and a cutting-edge lighting ensemble. All of these facilities are controlled by a modern domotic home automation system. Outside, CPad changed the surfaces of the traditional cladding with plain black slate tiles, creating a more modern look. As previously mentioned they designed a watercollection system hidden in guttering that forms part of the actual ledge, in the process adding a decorative touch to the façade with sunken areas and volumetric contrasts and re-cladding it with bricks and stone details in the form of a fireplace. Access to the villa comprises two entrances for cars and one for people, constructed in wood, as well as masonry walls and side-paths, and lighting and lines embedded into the sides of the three access doors, to distinguish them from each other, with a special touch. For the main access to the villa they created a large new concrete sheeting platform which is connected to the garden on both sides of the house. The garden has been completely levelled and redesigned with new plants, trees and shapes, creating an open and spectacular space. For the backyard garden they created a new design for the heated pool, adding a bubble bed and an underwater viewing bench, equipped with a counter-current jet, an LED lighting system integrated into the steps and walls, and a blanket of water using a modern, intelligent honmiosis system to maintain the water temperature and make it safe for the home owners. They also added a wooden solarium and re-coated it with white microcement – which gives the pool a similar appearance to that of pristine waters in a beach paradise – and built a new, well-equipped chill-out chiringuito, with a spectacular roof of African reed. To finish it all in style, in the lower part of the garden – at its lowest level – they created a real vegetable garden, with fruit trees of different species, leafy vegetables, etc. In short, a dream villa for clients who are blessed with even more impressive characteristics than the actual house! As always, CPad says it was a great honour to be able to create and carry out these dream improvements, with absolute attention to detail.
