THE METAVERSE AND DESIGN BRANDS
BY DAVID MILLON
The metaverse is the new ecosystem of business and digital presence in which communication, product marketing and advertising offer more immer sive and enriched experiences. One of the main attractions of web 3.0 is its potential as a sales and distribution channel, which helps to increase brand visibility and awareness and to obtain more accurate and relevant data. From these activities, the metaverse has already formed its own new econo my: in 2021 alone, more than $41 billion in NFT sales were generated. Following this, the forecasts for 2024 are promising: it is estimated that it will exceed $800 billion, of which $100 million will come from the luxury sector exclusively. Seventy per cent of brands are expected to be present in the metaverse in the next three years. Regarding NFTs, these are digital and unique goods that have established a method to convey exclusivity and brand essence. Cryptoart is a new way of collecting art that, thanks to blockchain technology, allows interior designers, designers and brands to exhibit and sell their work on marketplaces in real time. By holding copyright, artists will also receive royalties from secondary sales of their NFTs. Just as there is only one Da Vinci Gioconda, each NFT is a singular element in itself. And, although it can be copied, the owner has a certificate of authenticity that grants them the rights of acquisition. NFTs manage to transfer the authenticity of the analog world to the digital world. This is a great opportunity to commercialise the design. The metaverse blurs physical limitations and allows you to create custom digital products and designs that can, in turn, be a source of inspiration for physical designs. This aspect is closely linked to the concept of Phygi tal, which refers to the idea of transforming the digital into the physical, and which presents new business opportunities for brands in the architecture, home interiors and design products spheres. NFT goods open up possibilities for the design sector through personalisa tion, since the blockchain system allows the uniqueness of pieces to be certi fied, ensuring the exclusivity of each piece of furniture or virtual design.
We are talking, therefore, about authentic limited units, and even about new business opportunities that will be able to monetise renders and prototypes such as NFTs and take them to the industry for manufacturing and marketing.
