Where and when was NorthbyNorth founded? Design and production started in Vietnam back in 2008. In 2017 we decided to brand the product line under our own name, NorthbyNorth.
Can you tell us more about your products and their sustainability? The manufacture of our bamboo furniture is 100 per cent organic. No dan gerous substances, chemicals, pesticides or fertilisers are used in its produc tion. Bamboo is a great green option: it’s fast-growing, flexible and capable of recycling large amounts of CO2. It is, quite simply, the most durable and promising test design material of the future. All of our modern Danish-designed furniture exudes a relaxed boho feel, the key to creating a welcoming environment. Our furniture lines are affordable, comfortable and durable, with the added benefit of being easy to move and maintain.
When purchasing bamboo furniture, what should we look for? First of all, quality – the right type of bamboo. Many furniture manufacturers use bamboo that is not pre-treated, which significantly reduces the quality and durability of the product. There are also more than 200 different species of bamboo and not all are suitable for furniture production.

If the wrong type of bamboo is used in furniture production, the result will be that the furniture will not be as durable. For example, you could be left with a sofa that cannot adequately support the weight of two adult people weigh ing over 100 kilograms. Whereas, if the right type of bamboo is used, you will have an extremely sturdy bamboo sofa. Both the type and the pre-treatment of bamboo are crucial in the produc tion of a bamboo sofa. If the sugar is not extracted from the bamboo, it will attract insects to crawl into it and start eating the bamboo from within, significantly weakening it. The second key consideration is design and comfort. When you look at bam boo sofas online, they may look very similar, but they are definitely not. Many of the cheaper products on the market are designed as simply as possible (after all, costs must be kept down in order for you to acquire a very cheap sofa). In other words, when a bamboo sofa is made with a simply designed straight back (like a classic wooden chair) it is not going to be very comfort able. The back on a bamboo sofa should be slanted. This is not something you immediately see in pictures but it must be set up like that for you to achieve the right comfort, which is to be expected from bamboo patio furniture.
