Located about 40 minutes north-west of Lisbon, Aethos Ericeira is a newly opened hotel whose aim is to cater for the next generation of high-end trav ellers. According to Aethos, which describes itself as a design-led hospitality brand, the hotel has been created for “a young, striving community, including nomads who love surfing but also appreciate effortless luxury”. Developed on a former farm property near the surfing mecca and cobble stoned fishing village of Ericeira, the establishment was designed in part nership with Barcelona-based design studio Astet and Portuguese architect Luis Pedra Silva. “Together, they have created a unique hospitality destination that captures the textures, diversity, and spirit of its surroundings: the ever-changing hue of the sand combined with the intense blue of the Atlantic Ocean and the earthy colours of the soaring cliff.” Nestled on top of that 40-metre sandstone cliff, this innovative new lifestyle destination offers exceptional views of the Atlantic and is surrounded by some of Europe’s most stunning beaches.

Aethos’ focus on community-driven experiences is highlighted by what it says is a locally engaged approach that puts wellness, both physical and mental, at the centre. This healthy balance can be experienced in a variety of ways, including delicious cuisine, daily yoga and meditation classes. “We are creating culture,” says Aethos founder and CEO Benjamin Habbel. “We have a community of influential change-makers and entrepreneurs, and we use Aethos as a platform to drive positive change for both our guests and the overall setting as a whole. “We want to be an authentic reflection of the local environment, so every destination is very different from the others. What is true in all of our proper ties is that there’s always something happening, and there’s a reason to be there.” The hotel complex comprises 50 rooms and suites, a wooden walkway along the edge of the cliff, a meditation and yoga deck and a fire pit area. In ad dition to a gym and heated saltwater pool, its spa area includes a hammam, a hot slab and treatment rooms.
