One of Ibiza’s most tranquil and picturesque hotel settings now has an added attraction for booking a summer stay. Just before the coronavirus pandemic halted the tourism industry throughout Spain, the owners of the Petunia Ibiza hotel purchased a popular family-owned restaurant on the island.
La Mesa Escondida was their favourite restaurant, and after the purchase they embarked on a refurbishment with a view to re-opening it in a new location within the hotel once the “State of Alarm” lockdown was lifted. The restaurant has the same chef, Lorenzo Garrispani, who will continue preparing his “much-loved dishes with a strong focus on garden-to-table Mediterranean cuisine”, while also creating special new dishes.
During the lockdown, the hotel launched an online delivery service with a menu of easy-to-prepare dishes for locals to enjoy at home until the restaurant was “properly re-opened”. Purchased and reopened in 2019 following a major renovation, the Petunia Ibiza provides guests with one of the best views on the island, overlooking Es Vedra on the sedate south coast.
The hotel is located by the shores of Cala Carbó, a charming cove surrounded by fragrant pine vegetation – a wonderful setting to enjoy a quiet holiday with the family, a partner or friends. It is 10 minutes from San Josep village, just five minutes from the boat that travels across to the Es Vedra rocky island outcrop, and a convenient 30 minutes from the airport. Extending a warm welcome to guests, the owners say, “We hope you will forget the world, unwind and lengthen your life in this idyllic spot. Petunia is an ideal location if you want to enjoy tranquil holidays and be close to old Ibiza town or hopping Ibiza dance and beach spots.”
The hotel comprises one and two-bedroom units, all with stunning sea views, a large pool (with restaurant-bar service), gardens, chill-out areas and a rooftop bar for admiring the area’s exceptional sunsets. “Petunia invites you to disconnect and refresh your senses.” As to be expected in the current situation, or “New Normal” following the end of the lockdown and borders being re-opened for tourists from other European Union countries, ensuring strict adherence to coronavirus precautions is paramount. “The safety and well-being of our guests and associates are of the utmost priority. While the COVID-19 situation is still developing around the world, Petunia Ibiza is operating to the highest levels of health and safety vigilance, working in accordance with local and international authority advisories and protocols. “We have intensified precautionary health measures at our property, including briefing all employees on enhanced personal hygiene as well as the increased cleaning of all public areas and ventilation systems. “As Petunia Ibiza continues to closely monitor the situation, the highest standards of hygiene practices will continue to be enforced as the property follows protocols set by the government and health officials in Spain.”
The hotel stresses that its booking policy “remains flexible at this time”.
